Hushabye and Goodnight
Well it is Tuesday, and I really have to know who else is as exhausted as I am. I need sleep. Since we returned home from our trip I don’t think I’ve been to sleep before 2:00 a.m. with catching up on work and getting the kids back to school. Spring break, travel, Easter, whooohoo! Is there anything else going to suck the life out of me?
Its not that I’m not tired at night. My husband’s snoring from the other room beckons me to come to bed. Of course when I get there I know I won’t sleep for the snoring. It’s sad really, since unlike men, women are more likely to have sleep disorders. Two times more likely. If I kicked him out of bed maybe those numbers would go down.
But it is more than someone snoring in the house that can keep women awake. There is a whole list of afflictions that affect our sleep patterns. The major three contributors are stress, age and hormones. Yippee, and if we are lucky enough to control our stress we still don’t have a fighting chance against age and hormones half the time.
As we women age we sleep lighter, how helpful is that? We are blessed with the ability to hear children at night if they are disturbed from the precious heavy sleep they are blessed with. The hormones in our bodies fluctuating from pregnancy and menstrual cycles all affect our sleep.
I guess this means from about puberty to after menopause we can just forget about a restful night’s sleep. I haven’t looked at the numbers but I’m willing to bet that men snore more after we pass menopause and I can just guess there is no hope then either.
So what keeps you up at night?
